What are the benefits of a Charitable Gift Account?

The Charitable Gift Account was designed to make planned giving easier and more effective. The account provides you with a way to structure your giving, manage your taxes, and simplify your recordkeeping. Benefits include:

Realize Immediate Tax Benefits, and Give When It Meets Your Goals
Because they are irrevocable charitable gifts, donations to the Fund are usually fully deductible in the tax year in which they are made.1 This allows you to fund a future of charitable giving while receiving income-tax deductions right away. Our interactive Cost of Contribution Calculator illustrates how this preferred tax treatment can reduce your “net cost” of giving.
Give More as Your Contributions Grow
Your account is invested for tax-free potential appreciation, so your contributions can grow to support more giving in the future. The account lets you structure your giving over time, increasing the strategic value of your grants and allowing you to have a greater impact. Our interactive Charitable Giving Planner shows you how powerful this can be.
Review Your Account Online
You can research charities, rebalance investments, recommend grants, and track giving over time, allowing you greater flexibility and reducing your paperwork.
Create a Legacy
You can use the account to establish a lasting legacy of charitable giving. You can personalize the account with a name (e.g., “The Johnson Family Fund for the Arts”), involve family members in recommending grants, and name successors, so that the account can continue for generations.

Before deciding to establish a Charitable Gift Account, there are some important considerations you should keep in mind.

1. If you are contributing to an account close to year-end and you desire a tax deduction for that calendar year, please see section 3.6 of the Program Policies for important information.
